Snowbird Drug & Alcohol Policy

Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort is committed to a safe and productive work force; working conditions free from the effects of drug and alcohol use; and the maintenance of excellence in the services and products provided by Snowbird to our guests.

Employees are expected and required to report to work in a suitable mental and physical condition. In balancing the interests of the company, it’s employees, the welfare of our guests and the general public, Snowbird conducts drug and alcohol testing based on random selection, post accident, reasonable suspicion and unit testing. Each employee is issued a Drug and Alcohol Testing Consent Form to be signed at the start of employment. Additional copies of the drug and alcohol policy are available from the Human Resources Office at your request.

Employees interested in seeking counseling for drug or alcohol related issues are encouraged to contact APS for free and confidential assistance (see the benefit section for more information about APS).

You may be subject to drug and/or alcohol testing on a random, post accident, reasonable suspicion, or unit-testing basis at any time. Please act responsibly.

ALCOHOL POLICY

Snowbird’s policy regarding alcohol outlines a number of guidelines and restrictions for employees choosing to recreate at the Resort. While Snowbird supports employees enjoying the services and activities at the Resort, off-duty employees are none-the-less always employees and are expected to represent Snowbird in a positive and respectful manner. All employee conduct reflects upon the Resort and what our guests think of Snowbird. It is our goal to have our guests be able to enjoy Snowbird and look forward to returning time and again. Your cooperation and assistance (on and off duty) are essential for this to occur.

Snowbird policy states . . .
“Drinking in the Snowbird area (Village or Mountain) by off-duty employees shall take place exclusively in the restaurants, lounges, or areas where alcohol is dispensed for sale to the general public, or at private functions contracted through Snowbird. All alcohol to be consumed at Snowbird shall be purchased from a “TIPS” trained server at Snowbird (no brown bagging) and be consumed in the area defined by the event (i.e. in the lounge or the Oktoberfest general area).”

To clarify this section of the Snowbird policy:

1. Alcohol, including beer, is not to be consumed:

  • In any public areas of the Village, such as the Plaza Deck* (see exception below) or Snowbird Center, parking lots (tailgating) or walkways, hotel lobbies, building hallways, restrooms, or other common areas, the Spa, or grass areas of the Village;
  • In any work areas such as shops or store rooms, kitchens, locker rooms, or offices; or
  • On the lifts, tram or anywhere on the Mountain

*Exception: In moderation, beer or alcohol purchased from The Birdfeeder, Wasatch Grill, or special event vendors (all TIPS trained staff) may be consumed on the Plaza Deck or other designated event areas, provided you are not in a Snowbird uniform.

2. Any beer purchased at General Gritts, The Pharmacy, or The Cliff Sundries Shoppe, or any alcohol purchased at The Snowbird Wine and Liquor Store is not to be consumed anywhere at the Resort, except in a personal condo, rented hotel room (not snow night rooms) or Hilton apartment.

3. No alcohol or beer should be brought onto the Resort (brown bagging)except for use in a personal condo, rented hotel room (not snow night rooms) or Hilton apartment.

(In accordance with state law, cork finished wine may be brought into a licensed club or restaurant if it has been purchased in Utah and has the appropriate state label attached to it, and it is immediately turned over to a host or server upon entering the restaurant or club.)

4. Where allowed at restaurants and lounges and areas where alcohol is dispensed for sale to the public, any off-duty employee who wishes to purchase or consume alcohol must also:

  • be officially off the clock;
  • be out of uniform and nametag;
  • be 21 years old and be prepared to show picture ID upon request (driver’s license, state ID card, or passport).

Snowbird’s policy states:
“All employees, whether on- or off-duty, are expected to adhere to the guidelines of this policy and the standards of “Appropriate Conduct” outlined in the employee handbook.” (see “How You Act” in this section)

Snowbird management interprets these standards to mean that “Inappropriate Conduct” as it applies to on- or off-duty employee behavior or conduct includes anything that:

  • Can be considered disruptive or unruly and which inconveniences or negatively affects resort guests;
  • Requires Public Safety, Snowbird or concessionaire management or other employees to intervene in order to stop, control or resolve;
  • Jeopardizes or affects the safety or property of guests, other employees, or the employee, or Resort property;
  • Is illegal or requires County Sheriff involvement.
