World Wide Trekking and the Human Outreach Project, presented by Dean Cardinale December 29, February 2 & February 23 Join Dean as he takes you on a journey to the top of Mt. Everest and around the world on adventures in Africa, Ecuador, Peru, Russia and Europe… Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Elbrus on Safari in wild Africa, tracking mountain gorillas in Rwanda and many exciting places across the globe. Set to stunning photos and videos, Dean will share stories that are sure to entertain. The History of Little Cottonwood Canyon, presented by Jimmy Collinson January 5 and March 1 This presentation shows images of the modern history of Little Cottonwood Canyon, beginning with the arrival of settlers in 1850. Silver mining dominated the landscape in the late 1800’s until the mines played out. After a relatively dormant period in the early 1900’s, the presentation ends showing recreational skiing breathing new life into the canyon with the opening of Alta in 1939. Glaciers: Their Gift to Skiing at Snowbird/Alta, presented by Joe Gates January 19 Did you know that ancient glaciers actually created most of the features of the ski areas of Little Cottonwood Canyon? This presentation describes glaciers and how they changed the landscape, followed by the story of glaciations in Little Cottonwood Canyon and relates all this to skiing at Snowbird and Alta. Joe also discusses briefly the effects of global warming on the world’s glaciers and ice and how this could affect skiing. Canoeing the Arctic, presented by Dr. Andrew Taylor February 16 Dr. Taylor has make over 25 canoeing and kayaking trips to Northern Alaska, Northern Canada, and Greenland including two solo trips. Typically, he and his companions are dropped off by float plane at the headwaters of a northern river and are picked up by float plane or reach a small village 3-4 weeks later. He will share the beauty and excitement of the Arctic rivers and land that has taken him north year after year. He also summarizes the logistics of such a trip, highlights selected rivers and describes the challenges posed by rapids, bears, and mosquitoes. Skiing the Antarctica, presented by Doug Stoup March 15 Doug Stoup is an adventurer, ski mountaineer, educator and humanitarian. He has skied at both poles and all seven continents. He will share his passion of adventure, great skiing, and how he educates youth about this amazing planet in which we live. You Don’t Have to See It to Ski It, presented by John A. Casolo March 22 John has been totally blind for the past twenty-five years. During this time, he has learned what it takes to live a full, happy, and wonderful life without sight. He has also learned that this same knowledge can be applied to overcoming any major physical loss, including loss of limb(s), loss of hearing, loss of motion, or movement via a stroke, accident or muscle disease. It is this knowledge that he wishes to share with you. Trek Through Patagonia and Antarctica, presented by John Cotter March 29 Come share the photos of a 3 month adventure traveling through the southern half of the South American continent ending with a visit to the Falklands Islands, South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula. He has guided worldwide and been the first to ski some of the planets biggest lines. He’ll present a new show on his recent return to the Khumbu region of Nepal and climbing attempt of a Himalayan giant. Be it climbing in Indonesia, exploring Africa, or climbing the world’s highest peaks, the possibilities are always surprising and inspiring. Mountains of Motivation, presented by Kyle Dempster January 26 Kyle is one of the leading alpinists in the world today. He is recently returned from biking and climbing across Kyrgyzstan, China and Pakistan, including first ascents. An exclusive show that will surely motivate. Last Man on the Mountain, presented by Jennifer Jordan February 9 While living at the base of K2, filming her first documentary, Jennifer discovered the remains of the first man who died on the Savage Mountain, Dudley Wolfe, in 1939. She recounts the heroic attempts of Wolfe, Fritz Wiessner, and Pasang Lama to conquer the mountain in the face of treacherous terrain, furious weather, and unbridled ego, in what has become one of mountaineering’s most enduring and controversial tragedies. Climbing Around the Globe, presented by Guy Cotter February 16 Guy is the CEO of New Zealand based Adventure Consultants, a world-renowned mountain guiding company with a legacy of climbing expeditions to the world’s highest peaks, and wilderness treks to the more remote corners of the globe. This is a rare opportunity to see and hear from one of the most respected and talented mountain guides in the world as he presents a global show of climbing in New Zealand and around the world, from skiing on the Antarctic Peninsula to climbing to the top of the Seven Summits. Climbing, Guiding, and Surviving in Antarctica, presented by Winslow Passey March 8 Winslow is an AMGA certified Ski Mountaineering Guide. She has been guiding for 9 years, and is a lead guide for Utah Mountain Adventures. Winslow has guided all over the world in Antarctica, Nepal, Mongolia, South America, Alaska, and is a certified yoga instructor. She’ll inspire with her tales from several recent adventures on the icy continent. |
