CITs will train with regular camp staff for two days; they will hike, bike, work on skills, and learn to manage campers. Great way to introduce young teens to a summer work experience. Talented kids will be selected to help with the regular camp.
The first day will campers will be organized into small groups with counselors. Each group will participate in biking and running activities and drills to orient campers and ensure compatibility of groups. These activities are designed for fun and skill building so we prepare the campers and set them up for optimal success the rest of the week.
Each group will participate in a minimum of one bike adventure; destination and trail use will depend on skill and desire of campers. Please let us know if your child does not have a mountain bike or you need help to rent one. Snowbird has a limited number of brand new Specialized youth bikes. Please note that personal bikes should be at least 20 inches and have mountain bike style tires that are adequate for riding on Snowbird’s rocky terrain.
Campers will participate in basic and trail running skills and drills designed to both educate and assess skill level for hiking activities. These will be ‘game’ focused in nature and help campers get to know each other. Please provide running/hiking/biking shoes (no open toed shoes please; campers with improper footwear will miss out on activities).
Swimming skill activities will include swim skill games and drills in the Cliff Lodge pool.
Campers will practice climbing skills on the climbing walls to prepare for an adventure to Lisa Falls and a guided climb.
Campers will learn to use a compass and negotiate a course.
Camp Event Day
Friday will wrap with a special activity in the morning, followed by a combined competition that will offer campers the chance to compete against themselves and try to improve performance. The competition will be individualized for each camper. Parents are welcome to join us for the afternoon festivities if they so desire.
Activities may vary due to weather and skill levels. Campers will be in groups of like ages; activities and coaching will be provided in smaller groups.
Lunch is provided and will be a box lunch provided by Gritts Deli each day. Campers will receive a sandwich of their choice, chips or fruit, and a drink. Please send an additional snack if this is not enough for your child.
