Dawn Patrol for Advanced Skiers and Riders By Special Arrangement OnlyEarly Morning Experience
This program is designed for advanced level skiers and riders by special arrangement only. Participants will depart on the 7:30 am tram to Hidden Peak. The experience includes an overview of daily ski patrol preparations and a short presentation on avalanche safety and mountain awareness. It may also include a spectacular sunrise! Children and their families will meet the avalanche dogs, visit a snow study area, and tour the artillery used for avalanche control in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Children will finish in time for morning mountain school classes (by about 9:15). Program Schedule: We conduct Dawn Patrol on a weather permitting basis, scheduled during Holiday Youth Camps, or by prior arrangement for special groups. Participants may sign up through mountain school reservations or sales locations. (Program will be rescheduled or may be cancelled during or immediately after significant snowstorms.) Meeting Time: We must meet promptly at 7:15 am on the plaza deck near the tram entrance to prepare for 7:30 departure. The 7:30 tram car waits for no one! Dress: Dress warmly for possibly cold and windy weather on the peak. Neck gaiters are recommended. Qualifications: This program is for competent young skiers and riders (and their competent parents). Participants must be comfortable skiing black diamond terrain in variable early morning light and conditions. Youth Camp participants will be screened by their instructors. Due to the unique quality of our resort location, there are times when Little Cottonwood Canyon road and/or lift access is delayed due to avalanche danger. In these cases we monitor the situation closely and send programs out as soon as there is staff available and conditions warrant. Circumstances change with each situation and therefore it is important for guests to communicate with our staff. If lessons are missed due to these extreme circumstances, we will make every effort to accommodate our guests. Unless otherwise indicated, children’s programs are for 3 – 6 year olds, youth programs are for 7 – 15 year olds, and adult programs are for age 16+. mountainschool@snowbird.com |
