Phase Training
The Snowbird Mountain School Phase Training Program provides in-house training and accreditation that compliments PSIA-I/AASI-I certification programs. Participation in the Phase Training Program offers opportunities for personal skill development, wage scale increases, and helps prepare instructors for PSIA-I/AASI-I certification.
You will need to participate in training in specific areas and complete all written material to fulfill the requirements for each Phase of the three-phase program. The Requirements for each Phase are listed on the corresponding Phase document. Please note that the Phase document is not simply a “check off” sheet, but a record validating that you have completed training to the standards and expectations required for each Phase. In some cases it may be necessary to repeat training until the required standards have been achieved.
- ! Phase training and completion—especially Phase 2 and Phase 3—should be viewed as a process; it is not simply a set number of required clinics that must be attended. Completion of Phase 1 can generally be done over the course of a few weeks, Phase 2 may take one to two years or more, Phase 3 will likely take two to three years or more.
- ! It is your responsibility to maintain your records and ensure that all steps in the Phase Program are completed properly. Please note that no updates to your pay or status will occur until all completed documentation is turned in by you to the Training Manager.
- ! Check with your trainers to see what required areas of Phase training a specific clinic will help fulfill. Not all clinics will fulfill the specific area of training you need to complete, but most training should help fulfill some portion of required training. A trainer may elect not to check you off in certain areas if s/he determines you do not yet meet the required standard in that area.
Maintaining Your Phase Status
Maintaining your Phase Status requires annual participation in Phase Update training. This requirement is similar to the ongoing training required of PSIA/AASI certified instructors to maintain their certification.
- ! It is your responsibility to make sure you attend required Phase Update Training to maintain your Phase credentials and benefits. Currently, instructors who have Phase accreditation and no PSIA/AASI certification must attend an additional 6 hours of training per season beyond required paid training in order to maintain their Phase status. Failure to do so will result in loss of that status and a reduction in associated pay and benefits.
