    September 16 – November 1: $199

Chickadee Adventure Team/Child, age 3, skiers
Our youngest team members are first taught on a one-to-one basis until they can ski independently. Then, under the watchful supervision of coaches and counselors, they learn to negotiate child-friendly areas with their new friends. The day includes a mix of indoor and on-snow activities proportioned especially for three year olds. Lunch included.

Kinderbird Adventure Team/Child, ages 4-6, skiers, all levels
Kinderbird Adventure Team for 4-6 year olds offers the same quality and consistency as the regular Adventure Team, only geared specifically for the younger set. Class ratios max out at 5:1. Saturday or Sunday sessions last from 9:30 to 3:30. Supervision is available before and after class. Lunch included. *Please note specific dates as some weekends are skipped. 4-6 year old children qualify for “kids ski free”.

Adventure Team/Youth, ages 7-15 for Skiers and Riders, all levels
Our coaches use an adventure approach to engage children in a learning process that combines skiing and riding improvement with safety and mountain etiquette. Children build meaningful relationships with their team members and their coach during multiple Saturdays or Sundays of learning and fun. Adventure Team skiers and riders are grouped by ability to experience Snowbird’s unique terrain and challenges. Full day sessions. Supervision available before and after class. Lunch included.

    New!Expedition Team/Youth, ages 10-15, levels Advanced/Expert
Like those heading to Mt. Everest, expert teens need specialized training and challenge. This 15 week session provides more than just technical coaching. Participants will learn tactics for big mountain skiing/riding and avalanche awareness, practice precision through gate drills and training, explore the use of video to record their experiences, and use the FlaikTM system to document vertical feet and challenge themselves each week. Hand-picked coaches will help your child develop a passion for the sport, and respect for the mountain environments. Choose Saturdays or Sundays for one 15-week session that will includes the dates listed above.

Cost: $1,125. Expedition Team pdf Order Form

Expedition Team students will also qualify for the special Adventure Team season pass rate.

    Sidecountry Camp

Find “The Greatest Snow on Earth”

”There is so much here! How do I get to all this terrain, and more importantly, how do I do it safely?” —-Anonymous

What is “Sidecountry?”According to www.TheSkiingExperts.com, “Unlike backcountry skiing, where you have to actually hike to an off-piste destination, sidecountry skiing is when you utilize the resort’s lifts to get to the summit, and then simply take an uncharted course down to the base. In essence, it’s backcountry skiing without all the hard work.”

This in and sort of out-of- bounds camp uses lift-served access to explore the many acres of sidecountry and untracked snow at Snowbird. This is a great opportunity not only to be introduced to the backcountry skiing experience but also to practice the procedures for leaving the ski resort with a pack, avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel, and choosing terrain to reduce the hazards. This is also a perfect way to learn about skiing as a small team with a professional ski guide, just as in snowcat or heli-skiing excursions.

The first day will orient you to the resort and your team. You will practice with your avalanche beacon, learn basic avalanche awareness and explore the snowpack. All of this will be accomplished while skiing or riding some of the greatest terrain on earth!

Day two will find you getting deeper into the secret stashes and hidden pockets that Snowbird is famous for! Day 3 will be a customized adventure according to the ability and desires of each small team. (and, of course, the weather!) Document your travels with technology that will be provided. You will be able to recall you adventures from home when you are back planning your next escape!

Apres ski will be the time to share stories and plan the next adventures. Your guide not only lead you to the best snow, but the best après ski each evening.

Camp fees include guiding and coaching, early mountain access, video and apres-ski activities.

    Session 1: January 20-22

    Instructor Training Academy

Ever wondered what it would be like to teach skiing or snowboarding? How do the Pros get ready for the season? Do YOU have what it takes? The Snowbird Mountain School is conducting a hiring academy to fill instructor positions for the 2011-2012 season. The “Instructor Training Academy” will evaluate and provide coaching for communication skills, guest service awareness, teaching skills and skiing/riding skills. Entry-level positions are available for non-certified instructors interested in teaching primarily children and youth ages 3-15. Advanced teaching positions may also be available for experienced certified instructors. And if you just want to ‘tune up’ for the coming season, this is the most economical and informative way to begin your season. Groups will be split between those desiring a position on the school and those who are merely seeking coaching and personal challenge.

    Dates: November 25, 26, 27, 2011

RESERVATIONS – All our valued guests are encouraged to secure first choice dates by calling or e-mailing in advance. Reservations are subject to product availability and products may sell out at any time. We request that only one family be included on each reservation. For reservation information, please call 801-947-8222, or email us at mountainschool@snowbird.com.

OTHER INFORMATION – Please note that all Mountain School programs are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and except for private instruction, require a minimum of 2 participants. Lift tickets are required in addition to mountain school programs unless otherwise noted.

All activities begin promptly at their designated times. Please allow a minimum of 60 minutes to arrange for equipment rentals and to get to your designated meeting place. Due to the size of the resort and the number of guests enrolled in activities, we are not able to accommodate late arrivals.

Class lessons are scheduled to be available from NOVEMBER 25, 2011 through April 15, 2012. Private lessons are available by reservation, conditions permitting, from season opening date until April 30, 2012. Mountain School may modify this schedule as needed.

Private lessons and Specialty Camps only will utilize side door Tram access prior to 11:00 a.m.

Snowbird Mountain School cannot extend purchase deadlines, provide refunds, allow students to switch dates between sessions, or provide “make-ups” for missed classes. Due to the unique quality of our resort location, there are times when Little Cottonwood Canyon road and/or lift access is delayed due to avalanche danger. In these cases we monitor the situation closely and send programs out as soon as there is staff available and conditions warrant. Circumstances change with each situation and therefore it is important for guests to communicate with our staff. If lessons are missed due to these extreme circumstances, we will make every effort to accommodate our guests.

Unless otherwise indicated, children’s programs are for 3 – 6 year olds, youth programs are for 7 – 15 year olds, and adult programs are for age 16+.
