Snowbird & Powderbird to Offer Guided Helicopter Skiing Experience in Argentina

Snowbird, Utah – For the first time ever, Snowbird and Powderbird are taking guests on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to helicopter ski and snowboard in Argentina's Central Andes Mountains. Based in the remote El Azufre Valley, this experience will feature helicopter access to peaks reaching 13,000 feet. Guests can expect first descents with up to 5,200 vertical feet of skiing complemented by farm-to-table gastronomy and sustainable, solar-powered lodging inspired by principles of biophilic design.

"Snowbird is excited to be offering a new adventure experience for our community during the summer months in partnership with Powderbird, who are truly the experts in the guided skiing and snowboarding space," said Snowbird President and General Manager Dave Fields. “We’re eager to continue pushing industry boundaries, taking the experiences we’re known for here in the Wasatch to the next level.”

Trips will encompass six days of guided skiing and snowboarding and seven nights of lodging, running from July through mid-September. In instances of inclement weather, guests will have access to a dedicated, on-site snowcat. Locally-sourced meals, world-renowned wines and cozy lodges round off this incredible experience.

“For 50 years Powderbird has focused on managing risk and refining our procedures to operate the safest helicopter skiing we can,” said Powderbird Vice President of Operations Kevin O’Rourke. “We are excited to bring this experience to our new program at El Azufre, Argentina.”

Powderbird's dedication to safety is reflected in every aspect of the program. Each member of Powderbird’s full-time guide staff offers decades of experience and knowledge guiding guests in high-quality, complex terrain. Guests will be provided snow safety equipment and enjoy a 4:1 guest-to-guide ratio, prioritizing both safety and unparalleled skiing.
