It’s no secret that protecting our natural playground is important to those who live, play and work at Snowbird. From becoming more energy efficient with Snowbird Power Systems to improving our waste management practices to include recycling and composting, we work to make a meaningful difference in a variety of ways each season. Since the 2021-22 winter season, Snowbird has planted a tree for each season pass purchased in collaboration with POWDR and our partner Nokian Tyres as part of our Buy a Pass. Plant a Tree. Play Forever initiative—helping us make a difference together. 

For 2024, Nokian Tyres is committed to environmental action by planting trees on your behalf within projects aimed at wildfire mitigation and watershed protection in regions across the country, including specific areas in Oregon, Colorado and California. Over the past three years, Snowbird and select POWDR Resorts' Play Forever partnership with Nokian Tyres has made significant strides in tree planting efforts. Together, we have planted enough trees to restore the equivalent of hundreds of acres of healthy, natural forest and have played a crucial role in restoring hundreds of acres of deforested land. These efforts support combatting soil erosion, mitigating wildfire risk, addressing the impacts of invasive species and reversing the ongoing degradation of riparian areas. 

On average, a mature tree absorbs carbon dioxide at a rate of up to 48 pounds per year, which equates to approximately 1 ton of carbon dioxide over 40 years. According to a statement by POWDR, that means this program has the potential to counter the emissions of around 9,800 passenger vehicles driven for one year through the joint efforts of all participating resorts. That is a difference we are proud to contribute to, and we hope that our season passholders are proud, too. 

Nokian Tyres is an industry leader in sustainability. It seeks to protect the environment by using sustainable materials and producing tires in an eco-friendly way. Its North American factory in Dayton, Tennessee is one of the greenest tire production facilities in the world. This partnership is the latest example of that commitment to sustainability Nokian Tyres is an industry leader in sustainability.
