Reduce, reuse, recycle isn't just a saying at Snowbird - it's something we do every day. Whether it's our successful glass recycling program or taking food out of landfills and into composting systems, waste reduction matters at the Bird.
While Snowbird had a long-established resort-wide recycling program for paper, aluminum, plastic and cardboard throughout the 4 lodges and the Snowbird Center, we increased our efforts in 2017 to include the rest of the buildings at Snowbird along with glass recycling.

Since the start of the glass recycling program in the summer of 2017, Snowbird has recycled 295,000 pounds of glass!
Compost the Most
During the 2020-21 winter season, Snowbird and Alta launched a pilot food composting program to see what kind of difference could be made. The answer? A lot.
During the 6-week trial period, over 15,000 pounds of food was successfully composted from both resorts, turning waste back into usable soil nutrients. The program expanded at Snowbird in the summer of 2021, allowing us to compost about 15,000 pounds of food a month, just from Snowbird!
Since March 2021, Snowbird has composted 221,000 pounds of food waste.
Plastic Reduction
All of Snowbird's lodging properties have switched from single-use plastic shampoo, conditioner and body soap bottles to purchasing these products in bulk and refilling dispensers. The result? Happy guests and almost 4 tons less plastic waste anticipated annually in our landfills. Just another small, but important, way Snowbird is working to reduce our waste.

The Snowbird Play Forever Fund was created to provide funding in support of our community successfully navigating challenging times and continuing to thrive for generations to come.
