Freeride Tour athlete sets out of a starting gate at Snowbird

Snowbird Resort, the Freeride World Tour and U.S. Ski & Snowboard today announced that the Freeride World Tour by Peak Performance will return to Snowbird for the 2027 FWT Finals. The YETI Snowbird Pro presented by Stifel is scheduled for March 16-22, 2027. The competition will bring the world’s top freeride athletes to the steep, technical terrain of Snowbird’s Mt. Baldy.

The YETI Snowbird Pro presented by Stifel will mark the Tour’s return to Snowbird, Utah which last hosted a Freeride World Tour stop in 2014. Snowbird began hosting freeride competitions in 1998, building on a freestyle legacy that includes the 1975 and 1976 World Freestyle Skiing Championships, an early milestone in Snowbird’s long history of progressive ski competition. Currently, Snowbird hosts numerous International Free Skiers Association (IFSA) competitions each season, some of which function as Freeride World Tour qualifying events. Snowbird’s Athlete Team also includes three Freeride World Tour competitors: Ross Tester (ski), Hannah Baldwin (ski), and Holden Samuels (snowboard).

“The FWT is heading back to Snowbird this year, and we couldn't be more excited, " said Nicolas Hale-Woods, Freeride World Tour CEO & Founder. “With its excellent freeride terrain, strong community and world-class event expertise, Snowbird has established itself as one of the sport's key destinations. Bringing the Tour back is an opportunity to showcase everything the region has to offer, both on and off the mountain. Working alongside U.S. Ski & Snowboard marks an important step, with their marketing and media reach strengthening freeride's development in the United States.”

Mt. Baldy will serve as the competition venue, offering a premier stage where athletes can select their own lines through steep, natural terrain and push the progression of the sport. Spectators can expect incredible viewing opportunities from the base of Baldy as well as a festive atmosphere throughout the event, including live music, DJs, parties, events, and more.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the Freeride World Tour back to Snowbird,” said Dave Fields, Snowbird President and General Manager. “Snowbird has a deep history of supporting freeride competition and developing athletes. Our steep, technical terrain provides the perfect stage for the world’s best. We’re excited to see how these athletes will push themselves and the sport, and to share that experience with our guests and the broader freeride community.”

U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s role as a co-presenter of the FWT Finals at Snowbird reflects its growing commitment to freeride as the sport enters a defining period of expansion. Earlier this year, the organization added freeride skiing and snowboarding as official disciplines and established the inaugural 2026-27 Stifel U.S. Freeride Team, creating a national-team pathway for American athletes competing at the highest level. U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s involvement in the Freeride World Tour Finals and its investment in the national team underscore the momentum behind freeride and the sport’s upcoming Olympic debut at the 2030 Olympic Winter Games in the French Alps.

“This has been a landmark year for freeride at U.S. Ski & Snowboard,” said Sophie Goldschmidt, U.S. Ski & Snowboard President and CEO. “We officially welcomed freeride skiing and snowboarding into our family of sports, named our first Stifel U.S. Freeride Team and now we’re proud to help bring the Freeride World Tour back to our home state of Utah. Co-presenting the YETI Snowbird Pro presented by Stifel is one way we can help the sport keep growing here at home as we head into the sport’s Olympic debut in 2030."

Additional information about the competition schedule, athlete field, and spectator experience will be announced closer to the event.
