Visit for the Festivities
NOVEMBER & DECEMBER
Snowbird typically opens for the winter season right around Thanksgiving, kicking off a month and a half filled with events. Celebrate Thanksgiving with the feast of all feasts at The Aerie. Then keep the holiday decadence going with 2 more delicious buffets for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
Outside of the dining delights, the holiday season is chock-full of celebrations. Christmas Eve is known for magical holiday traditions. Watch from the Plaza Deck as the torchlight parade makes its way down the resort before Santa descends from the Tram, handing out candy canes. Then head to The Cliff Lodge for the interdenominational Candlelight Service.
New Year's is all about the sparkle. Start New Year's Eve by watching the one-of-a-kind torchlight parade and firework display put on by Snowbird Ski Patrol. Afterwards, check out The Aerie Lounge, where they’ll keep the party going till midnight with a balloon drop and champagne.
Keep an eye on the Events Calendar to see the full lineup of holiday festivities.
Note: Snowbird typically opens in November with limited terrain, and early-season conditions exist. By December, more terrain begins opening as the snow falls.
The Heart of Winter
JANUARY & FEBRUARY
The days may be short, but dang, the skiing gets good. Snowbird in January and February is winter at its peak. It tends to be colder, with an average temperature of 18°. This makes the snow incredibly light and fluffy. There's a reason it's called the "greatest snow on earth".
January through February is for the diehards. Meaning you're the kind of skier/snowboarder who loves to wake up early, ski all day, eat your fill at one of Snowbird’s many dining locations, hit up The Tram Club and head to bed. For those who want to step out of the resort life, the Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth are in the heart of their season, and their stadium, the Delta Center, is just 28 miles away.
The crossover of access to downtown concert venues and entertainment, paired with world-class terrain and snowfall, is simply unbeatable.
Snowbird's Snowiest Month
MARCH
Historically, March is Snowbird’s snowiest month, with an average of 91” over the 31 days. To put that in perspective, there are plenty of mid-west and eastern resorts that boast an average of 100” over an entire season. The typical March includes plenty of storm-skiing days with intermittent bluebird days thrown in the mix.
Throughout March, temperatures begin to rise, and Spring Break festivities kick off. The Tram Club hosts a yearly St. Patrick’s Day party, there are gear demos by the Tram and live music in the restaurants. At the end of the month, Plazapalooza, Snowbird’s spring concert series, begins. Come dance the day away, snow or sun, on the Plaza Deck.
Surf Season
APRIL & MAY
April and May is when the sun comes out to play. We’re talking rocking your best party shirt, cruising down corn, and best of all, the wiggles (there's typically one off Road to Provo and one on the way to Mid-Baldy). This is the time of year when the senders get sendy and goggle tans get good. Plazapalooza continues through closing day and The Tram Club's outdoor patio becomes the place you want to be.
Plus, for those newer skiers and snowboarders, it’s the perfect time to level up your skills. The temperatures are warm, the runs are filled in and the views are breathtaking. Book a Private Lesson to get started.
So, what are you waiting for? Book your room and come ski the legendary terrain of Snowbird.
